Noises Off Hits Stage at Roxy Theatre

Owen Sound | by Matt Hermiz

Director describes production as a comedy that details "a play within a play"

Owen Sound Little Theatre's 58th season is set to open with "Noises Off" at the Roxy.

Director Kevin Haxell says Noises Off is a comedy about trying to pull a play together that offers a look into the relationships and drama developing between the cast members as the show progresses.

"It's all about a group of nine actors who are attempting to put on a British farse," Haxell explains. "It's a play within a play."

Haxell describes the production's first act as a "director's worst nightmare" where cast members are working through a dress rehearsal.

He says the set then revolves and the second act of Noises Off takes a look at the same scene in the first act, but this time a month into the production.

"When the actors themselves have got a few grudges happening and a bit of jealousy," says Haxell.

The cast of nine includes Jane Phillips, Cory Laycock, Connie Rossiter, Ross Doherty, Dale Albrecht, Jed Phillips, Sue Seguin, Michael Johnston and Peter Leonard.

Tonight's show is the first of 10 Noises Off performances over the next two weeks.

There will also be shows on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-17 and Nov. 22-24.

All the performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available through the Roxy Theatre Box Office.
