November Child Porn Probes Result In 122 Arrests In Ontario

The OPP painted a disturbing picture today when it comes to child exploitation in this province.

In November alone, 122 people were charged with a total of 551 child pornography related offences, and 12 have been previously convicted of child sexual abuse.

One of those charged is 36-year-old Jeffrey Ricketts from Owen Sound.

He also faced child pornography related charges back in 2016, after an investigation by police resulted in the arrest of five men across Grey and Bruce counties.

Court staff say Ricketts was convicted for distribution of child pornography and sentenced in April 2017 to one-year in jail, 12 months probation and given an order to be listed for 10 years on the National Sex Offender Registry.

OPP Deputy Commissioner Rick Barnum told a news conference that every image of child sexual abuse represents a real victim and every trading and transmission of that image is the re-victimization of that child.

Investigators have identified 55 victims with the youngest being three years of age.

Police said they are seeing victims getting younger each year and the acts depicted are becoming more violent.

OPP Staff Sgt. Sharon Hanlon said the charges include sexual assault, sexual interference, child-pornography offences, invitation to sexual touching,  luring,  voyeurism and more.

Hanlon said charged persons include former and present teachers, emergency service personnel, members of the military, engineers, immediate family members of the victims, as well as a female.

She said in the preview of the seized devices in these investigations reveals the presence of child sexual abuse material of children from infancy through to 17 years of age.

She said it's clear this crime crosses all demographics, of wealth, employment, social status and age.
