The Meaford Harbour Run had its best year for fundraising this year, bringing in an estimated $100,000.
The 23rd annual event saw around 500 people -- a number that Brian Renken, the run coordinator, says is down over previous years.
However, he says this was the run's best year in terms of fundraising.
Renken says over the past 23 years the event has brought in around $611,000 to bolster programs and facilities. This year, the funding will be going towards strengthening mental health supports and accessibility in Owen Sound and Meaford hospitals.
Renken believes that mental health supports need a boost in the area saying "Changes need to be made to make our hospital more compatible for those in distress."
Renken says that the public can keep track of how the funding is spent by checking in at the Meaford Hospital Foundation.
