Meaford Harbour Run Goes Virtual

Meaford | by Bayshore News Staff

People can do a 5K their own way and return an activity log to win awards and prizes.

The Meaford Harbour Run is going virtual this year.

Meaford Hospital Foundation Executive Director Jen Wright says the main reason for the decision is the health and safety of those involved and gathering restrictions in place -- they limit outdoor events in Ontario to 100 people.

"We had hoped that the restrictions might have been lifted to allow us to move forward with hosting a live event this year," Wright says in a statement. "It isn't worth risking the health of our community."

The virtual five kilometre race "option" has been available since early July to those who wished to continue their support for the hospital but weren't comfortable attending on race day.

Now, everyone can take the opportunity to complete a five kilometre race their way -- and it doesn't have to be just running.

Event organizers say you can kayak, canoe, run, walk, stroll, bike and complete a 5K in any way you wish.

The rules, according event organizers, are all participants must complete the five kilometre trek between Sept. 1 and Sept. 19, and fill in and return an activity log for a chance to win prizes and awards.

"There are even some cool prizes for those that push their way to blow past 5K and give themselves a larger challenge," a statement from the Meaford Hospital Foundation explains.

Registration information is available here.
