Saugeen Shores |
For the 1st time since 1978, the Lifesaving Sport Provincial Championships will return to the shores of Port Elgin and Southampton.
For the first time since 1978, the Lifesaving Sport Provincial Championships, are returning to the shores of Port Elgin and Southampton.
Saugeen Shores Aquatics Supervisor Shanna Reid says the championships will be a 4-day event, to be held August 12th to 15th at the Port Elgin Main Beach and the Southampton Chantry View Beach.
Reid, speaking to Saugeen Shores Committee of the Whole on July 10th, says the event will be an economic boost for the municipality.
She says over 350 athletes and their families will be in town for the duration and will be spending money on accommodations, food and entertainment.
The competitions are broken into junior, senior and masters divisions.
Reid says the event "Will showcase lifesaving sport as a means in which to get trained in learning how to swim; learning how to rescue yourself and learning how to rescue others."
She says everyone is invited to the August events to cheer on the squads locally and from out of town.
