The brand new Meaford Library opens to the public today.
The new $7.1 million library is on the corner of Sykes and Trowbridge street where Foodland was formerly located.
The project has been in the works for a few years with help from community fundraising events. Construction began in late summer 2019 and saw some delays due to COVID-19 and some construction setbacks including an unforeseen backfill problem on the building site.
The new library has a modern look to it, with large windows to let in plenty of natural light. It has been designed with accessibility in mind.
In addition to books, movies, magazines, newspapers, and other items snowshoes will be available to borrow starting December 14th, thanks a donation of 15 pairs from the rotary club of Meaford.
Like so many other organization, the library has adjusted to the pandemic by offering online activities like trivia nights. The next one is November 26th from 6 to 10 p.m. It will have six rounds of ten questions.
The ‘Brown Bag Book Club’ has gone virtual for now. The idea is to eat lunch and enjoy a casual book discussion. Meetings are held every 3rd Thursday of the month from 12p.m. to 1p.m. on Zoom. The library will provides a new book each month, free of charge.
On Mondays, the library offers take home craft kits. For kids, there is an online storytime, the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program and the upcoming 2021 Forest of Reading Program.
Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Curbside pick up is also offered during library hours.
