Not even a pandemic could stop Bruce Power from staying on track with its Major Component Replacement program.
Bruce Power officials were all smiles as they celebrated the year of refurbishment work on Unit 6.
Spokesperson John Peevers says it’s a year later and the project is “on track,” despite the challenges of Covid-19.
Peevers goes on to say they’re on schedule to finish with Unit 6 in 2023 and then move on to another unit.
President & CEO of Bruce Power, Mike Rencheck says despite the pandemic, their goals are set in providing power for the short and long term.
Also taking part was Greg Rickford, Ontario Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, and Minister of Indigenous Affairs, who says it was incredible that such an MCR milestone was met during Covid-19 and done so, safely.
Bruce Power also realized the responsibility it had to support local communities and Ontarians with COVID-19 relief.
The company responded by providing 2.5 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), nearly $1 million in aid to researchers and food banks, and another $1 million through the Be a Light: Beating COVID-19 Together campaign to support local communities, organizations and businesses.
A pair of successful Cobalt-60 harvests supported the production of medical isotopes to sterilize 24 billion gloves and swabs for COVID-19 treatment.
