Ontario’s Education Minister Stephen Lecce says the Province’s high schools are set to offer second-language courses in American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des Signes Quebecoise (LSQ) this coming September.
“We’re now able to offer high school students the chance to learn ASL or LSQ as a second language and give them the opportunity to expand their language skills which is critical in today’s education and today’s job market,” he said.
ASL and LSQ are distinct languages and their availability in the high school setting will soon position the Province as a leader – Ontario is amongst the first Canadian jurisdictions to offer both programs as ministry-developed education offerings.
Lecce says all high schools in the Province will have access to the courses.
We're expanding language, life & job skills for students.
