In anticipation of the Province moving out of Step 3 of reopening Ontario, Saugeen Shores Clerk Linda White brought forward a report on the option to move to in-person council meetings no sooner than September 13th.
However, Saugeen Shores council is not going there for the time being.
Councillor Matt Carr wanted to get back to open meetings as did some others with proper protocols in place.
Others like Councillor Jami Smith was not in a hurry to return to in-person meetings.
As a matter of fact, Smith thought the virtual participation would be useful for “young members of council” who are raising families, before Covid even hit.
Smith notes the procedural By-law allows members to participate electronically if the member provides notice no later than the day after the date on which the agenda for the meeting is provided.
She says she intends to exercise that right.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says he senses the trepidation by some council members and it could end up being a council where some are together and some are apart.
Charbonneau suggested and council agreed to shelve the idea until some time in October when it will be revisited.
