The Lamont Sports Park project continues to see strong community support with a $100,000 donation coming from the Saugeen Shores Rotary Club.
The contribution made to the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign was announced on Wednesday and will go towards the second phase.
The contribution from the rotary club will grant them 20-year sponsorship rights to the Lamont Sports Park Accessible Playground, which is scheduled to be constructed this fall.
Campaign Co-Chair and Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt says, “this contribution by Saugeen Shores Rotary Club has given our $1 million Fundraising Campaign a significant boost. Saugeen Shores is blessed with very vibrant and community-minded service clubs and our committee is so grateful for this tremendous contribution by the Saugeen Shores Rotary Club.”
Saugeen Shores Rotary Club President Pat O’Connor adds it gave them great pleasure to be part of this community defining project and in particular, to sponsor the accessible playground.
“We believe that every child should not only have the right to participate in play activity, but they should have a safe and fun place in which to do so,” says O’Connor.
This is the second major contribution announcement in recent weeks, following a $250,000 commitment from Bruce Power on March 16.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the second phase of the project features various amenities, notably two baseball diamonds geared specifically for minor sports.
Myatt says further donor announcements will be made in the near future.
Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park will open in the spring 2023.
Phase 2 is scheduled to be completed in 2023 or 2024, pending the completion of a fundraising campaign.
