The fundraising campaign for the next phase of the Lamont Sports Park project in Port Elgin has received another big commitment.
The Port Elgin and District Lions Club is contributing $75,000 to Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams $1-million campaign for lifetime naming rights to the park’s sun shelter/gazebo.
The $75,000 donation will go towards the Phase 2 development of the park.
“This contribution to the park’s sun shelter is another example of the active role the Lions Club plays in Saugeen Shores,” says fundraising campaign co-chair Mike Myatt. “We are so fortunate to have the Lions Club in our community.”
This is the third major contribution announcement in recent weeks, following $250,000 and $100,000 commitments from Bruce Power and the Saugeen Shores Rotary Club.
Illuminating Dreams campaign co-chair Rob Stanley says fundraising is proceeding extremely well, and the committee expects to make further major donation announcements over the next few weeks as the campaign focuses on making presentations to local businesses.
Phase 1 of Lamont Sports Park — which includes four baseball diamonds, connecting paths to the Saugeen Rail Trail, temporary washrooms and parking — will open in the spring 2023.
Phase 2 is scheduled to be constructed in 2023 or 2024, pending the completion of the fundraising campaign. It will include additional amenities and two more diamonds geared towards minor ball.
