The Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation is receiving a nearly $64,000 donation to support the purchase of a new point of care ultrasound for the critical care unit at the Owen Sound hospital.
The foundation says they received the donation from the Sauble Area Medical Clinic, a registered Canadian Charity. This is the last donation of three they made to Grey Bruce Health Services hospitals in Owen Sound, Southampton, and Wiarton for various medical imaging equipment, totaling at over $1 million.
The new ultrasound coming to the Owen Sound hospital, according to the foundation, can be used to diagnose a number of conditions at the patient’s bedside, promoting faster treatment and more favourable outcomes.
The foundation says having this tool available can result in fewer tests, less radiation, and less movement throughout the hospital, as it can also check fluid levels in the lungs, heart obstructions, and other functions.
Chief Medical Imaging at Grey Bruce Health Services Dr. Colin McIver says this is an incredible legacy that the clinic is leaving behind.
“The impact of these gifts will be felt by everyone in Grey-Bruce and we are so thankful to all those who have been involved with the clinic since its beginning,” says McIver.
The foundation says funds given by the clinic were generated through the sale of the organization’s building in November of 2021 to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
Chairman of the clinic Cecil Groves says they thank all those who have support the Sauble Area Medical Clinic of the past 19 years.
“We’re glad that these funds can continue to support medical care in our community,” says Groves.
