A 25-year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with impaired driving after crashing into a headstone at Greenwood Cemetery.
Owen Sound Police received a report about a vehicle that had lost control while driving through the cemetery just after 6:15 p.m. Tuesday night.
“Upon arrival officers located a silver Nissan Altima stuck on top of a headstone with both front wheels off the ground,” city police say in a release.
Both the vehicle and the headstone sustained substantial damage as a result of the incident. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were not injured.
Police say the 25-year-old driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Officers also seized open containers of alcohol.
The driver later provided police with breath samples that revealed his blood alcohol concentration was approximately double the legal limit.
He was charged with impaired driving, operating a vehicle with an excess blood alcohol level and operating a vehicle without insurance.
The 25-year-old accused, not identified by police, had his license automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.
