Georgian College is partnering with the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) to drive projects and programs geared towards the energy sector.
The NII says they signed a memorandum of understanding with the college that will not only drive projects benefiting the energy sector, but also local communities.
The NII’s goal is to shape a Canadian nuclear industry which embraces new thinking, technologies and new lines of business which play a role in the global shift to a low-carbon future.
Under the memorandum, Georgian will be able to receive support from the NII advisory group for the development of programs and services which meet the needs of NII members and organizations which the institute supports. The college will also receive support for projects, programs and research initiatives which relate to NII’s mission and objectives.
NII will also be sharing Georgian research findings, programs and services, as well as all other relevant material with its members.
Georgian will also support the NII through volunteer time, technical expertise for project proposals, sharing relevant NII research projects, and also collaborating on various initiatives or activities.
NII says they and Georgian share a commitment to Canada’s clean energy future, an innovative and resilient nuclear industry, and improved skills and knowledge.
Vice President of Georgian College Kevin Weaver says their Owen Sound campus is the only full-service college campus located in the clean energy frontier region consisting of Grey, Bruce, and Huron counties and are playing an increasingly critical role in the energy sector’s workforce planning and development activities.
“The Nuclear Innovation Institute is a vital hub for the energy sector and we’re looking forward to working with their collaborative and talented team to expand skill development and innovation efforts in the region,” says Weaver.
NII President and CEO Bruce Wallace adds as they continue to expand partnerships with leading-edge post secondary institutions, they welcome Georgian College as a friend of NII.
“From its focus on skilled trades to the future of health care, Georgian College bring expertise that can help shape this region, our next generation of workers, and the clean energy industry both here and beyond,” says Wallace.
