Meaford council is voicing its support of an affordable housing delegation at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference this summer.
During a council meeting on June 27, a motion for decision was brought forward by Coun. Paul Vickers stating Meaford council recognizes the access to affordable housing is an issue not just in the municipality but across the province, and council is in favour of looking at ways of having a positive impact.
This comes as Grey Council council recently announced its plans to submit a number of delegations to be approved for the AMO conference, one of which is an increased need for affordable housing in the county.
In addition to showing support for the delegation to be presented at the conference, the Meaford motion says council also wishes to express its desire to request new legislation and funding related to affordable housing and that the motion also be forwarded to other municipalities in the county.
“Just showing our support to the county level that we need something done about affordable housing,” says Vickers. “This is one way we can actually try to reinforce the province that this is an issue.”
The AMO conference will be held in Ottawa from Aug. 14-17.
