Bruce County is looking to hear from residents on its active transportation and recreational trails master plan.
The county says they are encouraging residents and stakeholders to take part in a survey which focuses on active transportation, like cycling routes and on recreation trails in country forests.
The master plan will act as a framework to improve, and build upon the county’s existing trail network and show where new trails should be constructed and how they should be phased.
County Warden Janice Jackson says the county recognizes that a well-connected active transportation and recreational trail network will enable residents to make healthy choices, as well as attract tourism and economic growth to the area.
“We are eager to hear the public’s input and ideas, which will help us plan for the future,” says Jackson.
County Trails Manager Andrew Beumer adds, “the active transportation and recreational trails master plan will align with the recently completed transportation master plan and will build on the county’s existing active transportation and popular recreational trail networks.”
The county manages and maintains the Bruce County Rail Trail which extends 85 kilometres from Port Elgin to Bruce Power and from Power Elgin through the communities of Paisley, Walkerton, and Mildmay, to the Huron-Bruce Road. The county forest trails include the Brant Tract, Carrick Tract, Lindsay Tract, and MTB Park.
