A major telecommunications company plans to expand its high-speed fibre internet service to Owen Sound.
Bell issued a news release on Wednesday to announce the expansion will bring all-fibre broadband access to about 10,000 homes and businesses in Owen Sound by next year.
It will provide fast connections with internet download speeds of up to three gigabytes per second, the company says.
“In a modern world where you have to be connected it’s really fantastic to have fibre … pretty well to every home in town,” says Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy. “There’s certain people that have home businesses and need to upload with speed and volume. And this gives them that opportunity. So I think it’s really good for the city.”
The Owen Sound fibre expansion is part of Bell’s $5-billion capital spending program in 2022 to accelerate its broadband fibre, 5G and rural networks, a release from the company says.
