The organizers of the 170th Owen Sound Fall Fair are calling the event a success.
The fair was held at Victoria Park on Sept. 9 and 10 and offered a variety of attractions.
These included beef shows, where different types of cattle could be shown off, a hay bale maze, and a Friday night barbecue.
Agricultural Society President Hiliary Breadner says it felt invigorating to be back celebrating 170 years.
“It’s so nice to have that fall fair feeling back, and really it was something I truly missed for the last few years when we couldn’t have it during Covid,” says Breadner.
Fair manager LeeAnne Bell adds they are not sure how many attended the event, but Friday evening saw the venue packed.
“It was great to see families. It wasn’t just the older set, it was definitely a lot of kids,” says Bell.
Bell says as they were the recipients of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, they were able to use the funds to pay for all of the expenses and offer free admission to the fair.
“We were also recipients of a Farm Credit Canada grant, and we used that money to paint the barn and do some electrical upgrades,” says Bell.
Breadner adds being a fall fair, they want to try and bring agriculture and farming into the city, and teach people about where their food is coming from.
