Community Foundation of Grey Bruce will be hosting an online interactive event called the Vital Conversation on Housing.
The event will be on December 1st from 4-6 pm.
CFGB Executive Director Stuart Reid says that the topics that will be under discussion are important to all of us, saying “We are talking about what has been termed a crisis in our region and across Canada in terms of rental stock and market value of homes, which is causing a lot of anxiety and precarity for people in terms of maintaining and finding housing.”
Reid adds, “That’s a real threat to community wellbeing, and so the report that we released in May kind of does a deep dive into some of the data, and the situation in Grey Bruce that we’re finding ourselves in.”
The purpose of the online session will be to discuss the findings of a report that was released by the organization in May of this year.
It’s also going to include guest speakers to give a deeper perspective on housing in Grey and Bruce Counties.
The guest speakers are:
– Tania Dickson, the Housing Services Manager, and Jack Van Dorp, who is the manager of Land Use Planning for Bruce County
– Erica Phipps, a researcher and advocate, will share survey results collected by the RentSafe Owen Sound Collaborative
– Marilyn Struthers, from the Institute of Southern Georgian Bay, will talk about information from the National Financialization of Housing Lab and discuss what could help local municipalities to cope with the housing crisis
The online session will be facilitated by Melri Wright and Mike Wright of Ledge Leadership.
Community Foundation Grey Bruce has an Eventbrite page set up through their website where you can register to attend the meeting virtually.
There is no cost to join in, but you do need to register beforehand to attend.
During the last online session that CFGB held, around 100 people attended online.
