Former Georgian Bluffs mayor Al Barfoot is the new chair of the Grey Bruce Board of Health.
He was elected during a recent Board of Health meeting for a one-year term.
“I am honoured to serve again as chair and look forward to working with the new Board of Health, which is made up of members who are each dedicated to supporting and advancing the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s mission of protecting and promoting the health of everyone in Grey-Bruce,” Barfoot says. “I would also like to acknowledge and thank Sue Paterson for her service as board chair. The past two years have been an unprecedented and challenging time for Public Health due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Board of Health was fortunate to have Sue’s leadership, guidance, and expertise during this time.”
Barfoot spent more than two decades in municipal politics, including several terms as the mayor of Georgian Bluffs before deciding not to run again in the 2018 municipal election. He is also a former Grey County warden.
He served on the Board of Health from 2016-18 as Grey County’s representative. In 2020, he returned as a provincial appointee.
Barfoot previously served as chair in 2018 and also as vice-chair in 2021.
