Hanover Police are warning the community about fraud.
Police Chief Christopher Knoll says on Twitter, officers took a fraud complaint where a suspect claiming to be Sergeant Miller of the Hanover Police was demanding money over the phone indicating they had their grandson in custody.
Knoll says, “Police will never ask anyone for money, iTunes cards, bitcoins etc in any circumstances at any time.”
He asks community members to please remind family, friends and neighbours about these fraudsters. Knoll adds, “They stoop as low as you can go to take your hard earned money.”
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says, “If you’ve received a call or other contact from a family member in trouble, talk to other family members to confirm the situation.” They say to watch out for urgent pleas that play on your emotions.
