Local representatives are at the Canadian Nuclear Association Conference in Ottawa.
It began Wednesday and continues Friday.
A social media post from the Town of Saugeen Shores says Mayor Luke Charbonneau and CAO Kara Van Myall met with representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources to talk about how the community can help Canada reach its goal of Net Zero, as well as to ask for changes to regulations of medical isotopes.
The Nuclear Innovation Institute based in Port Elgin is also there. They’re promoting work with isotopes among other things.
Bruce Power held a supplier forum at the conference and also sponsored Wednesday night’s welcome reception.
Other representatives from Grey Bruce are there, including Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy and Brockton Mayor & Bruce County Warden Chris Peabody.
The Conference’s program says topics of discussion at this year’s conference include Indigenous inclusion, resources for students, government policies pertaining to nuclear energy, opportunities for expanding the role of nuclear in domestic energy systems, Canada as a global leader, global energy security, nuclear power’s potential role in industries like oil and gas, mining, cement and steel production, and international collaboration for nuclear fuel.
Bruce Power’s Adam Kahgee, who is Director of Indigenous Relations & Business Partnerships in the Corporate Affairs Division, is set to speak Friday on a human resources panel.
Provincial Ministers are also due to speak Friday at the conference.
