Seventh is in play for the Owen Sound Attack heading into the final day of the Ontario Hockey League regular season.
Deni Goure scored what stood as the game-winner short-handed in the third period, as the Attack held off a pesky Flint Firebirds team 6-4 at the Dort Financial Center Saturday night.
James Petrovski, Thomas Chafe, Landen Hookey, Servac Petrovsky and Cedrick Guindon also scored for the Attack (32-28-6-1), who ended a four-game losing streak.
Coulson Pitre, Kaden Pitre, Matthew Jenken and Artem Guryev had the goals for Flint (35-28-4-1).
The win for the Attack left the door open for them to move up to seventh-place in the Western Conference on the final day of the regular season. But sixth is no longer a possibility.
The Guelph Storm (35-28-4-1) wrapped up sixth in the Western Conference with a 7-3 win over Saginaw on Saturday.
Here’s how things stand for the Attack. They currently sit in eighth with 71 points, one point back of the Kitchener Rangers (33-28-6-0).
Owen Sound can pass Kitchener for seventh if they manage to defeat the Saginaw Spirit on Sunday, and the Rangers lose in regulation to the London Knights (44-21-2-0).
If the Rangers manage just a single point against London, or if the Attack don’t beat Saginaw, Kitchener will clinch seventh and face the Knights in the first round of the OHL playoffs.
The Attack would then be in eighth and draw the Windsor Spitfires (44-18-4-2) in Round 1.
Game time for the Attack against the Spirit on Sunday evening is 5:30 p.m.
You can hear the game live on 560 CFOS with Kia of Owen Sound-Terry’s Trailer Service Bearadio.
