Students at Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) received a donation from a local Canadian Tire to support a food tech class.
Owner of the Canadian Tire in Port Elgin Mike Mowbray says they made the donation to the program on Tuesday.
“They recently renovated that whole classroom and were looking for some new tools to use to enhance the program and came up with a little bit of a wish list and we were able to accommodate a bunch and get them headed in some different directions because they didn’t have those tools,” says Mowbray.
He says a teacher approached them after students put together their wish list and were able to donate some items including airfryers, griddles, and mixers in time for the first semester.
Mowbray says what prompted this donation was their working relationship with the high school and with the amount of students and parents who work at the business, they wanted to give back.
“It was natural when they came knocking that me and my wife felt really comfortable to help them out,” says Mowbray. “We were just ecstatic to be able to do it and to see the kids and the excitement in their faces.”
