Darren Rumble has been named interim head coach of the Owen Sound Attack.
The team announced the move in a release Wednesday morning, two days after former head coach Greg Walters was dismissed.
Rumble, 54, joined the Attack as an assistant coach prior to the 2023-24 season. He has a lengthy resume in coaching. Rumble spent the last three years as an assistant with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
His time in the QMJHL also included stops in Moncton and Shawinigan. He was head coach of the Moncton Wildcats from 2013-19, and spent one year as an assistant in Shawinigan.
Rumble also had a two-year stint from 2011-13 in the Western Hockey League, working as an assistant coach for the Seattle Thunderbirds.
He has also coached in the American Hockey League, as head coach of the Norfolk Admirals for two seasons from 2008-10, and as an assistant with the Springfield Falcons from 2004-08.
Sean Teakle will remain in his current role as an Attack assistant coach, a release from the organization says.
The Attack (4-2-1-0) play their first game of the post-Greg Walters era on Friday, when the visit the Kitchener Rangers (5-2-0-0). Game time is 7 p.m. You can hear the play-by-play live on 560 CFOS, with Kia of Owen Sound-Terry’s Trailer Service Bear Radio.
Rumble’s debut as the Attack interim coach will be against the team he coincidentally spent his OHL playing career with. He was a member of the Kitchener Rangers for three seasons from 1986-89, before moving on to professional hockey.
Friday’s game is the start of a three-in-three. Owen Sound hosts the Brantford Bulldogs (1-4-1-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Bayshore, and then the Kingston Frontenacs (3-5-0-0) at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
