One resident was taken to hospital following a house fire in Grey Highlands.
Grey Highlands Fire Chief Marty Wellwood says firefighters responded to the blaze on Jan. 28 on Grey Road 13 around 3:50 a.m.
“When we arrived on scene, there was heavy fire from the basement level of the house and extended to the exterior. The lone occupant had exited the building,” says Wellwood.
He says the one resident was taken to Markdale hospital for minor smoke inhalation and was released soon after.
Wellwood adds the cause of the fire is under investigation, but isn’t considered suspicious.
The damage estimate is about $500,000.
“This house is still standing, but it’s probably going to be a total loss,” says Wellwood.
He says about 35 firefighters responded to the blaze from both the Flesherton and Markdale stations and they requested the Dundalk Fire Department to attend with a tanker to assist with supply.
Wellwood says firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.
