A Vancouver police officer is cycling through Grey Bruce today as he raises money to support kids who are fighting cancer.
Sgt. Dayne Campbell arrived in Tobermory Thursday on his cross country bike ride. Friday is his 33rd day on the road.
Campbell says after 16 years of biking for cancer, he was about to conclude his cycling in the program when his family was affected by cancer.
“About a month after I hung the helmet up, my own daughter was diagnosed with cancer and she’s been through a little bit of a journey. We were very fortunate to catch it quite early. A couple of surgeries and a good bout with radiation ;later and she’s in recovery now and hopefully she’ll get back to her competitive gymnastics soon.”
You can donate to his Cops for Cancer ride by looking for ‘Dayne’s Journey Across Canada on the Canadian Cancer Society’s website.
He’ll be at the community centre in Tobermory at 8:30 this morning.
