The Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit had a busy weekend making sure all water users were operating safely.
Police say on June 15, officers patrolled the water off Tobermory, where they checked 10 boats as well as 64 kayaks and canoes. A 39-year-old from Huntsville was charged with operating a boat without a life jacket of the right size for each person on board.
Then on June 16, the marine unit was once again out on the water off Tobermory, where they checked six boats and 44 kayaks and canoes. A 26-year-old from Etobicoke was charged with operating a boat with an unsealed container of liquor as well as operating the vessel without a life jacket of the right size for each person on board.
The next day on June 17, officers were patrolling Georgian Bay when they came across a boat in which the motor was not working. The marine unit towed the vessel back to harbour.
“This is a reminder to all vessel operators that if you are out on the water to ensure you have the proper life saving appliances (personal flotation device/life jackets) on board as per the requirements as per Transport Canada,” says Grey Bruce OPP.
