A new comicon is coming to the Owen Sound Legion this weekend.
Pop Culture Canada Senior Event Coordinator David Wyldstar says the event on Saturday at the legion will include all things comic book, video games, toys, sports cards, jewelry, and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We work with a number of different celebrities. We are bringing in Patricia Patts who played Peppermint Patty on the Charlie Brown cartoon,” says Wyldstar.
He says the family friendly event will feature a number of comic book and anime artists, as well as authors, and selection of vendors.
“It’s basically like going to a big city comicon, but instead of you driving there, we bring it to you,” says Wyldstar.
Pop Culture Canada has been putting on comicon events across the country for over 20 years, and Wyldstar says they were drawn to Owen Sound after hosting a comicon in Collingwood over the last several years.
“We keep track of where people are coming from, we ask them how far they have driven, where they want to see events, and the number of people that came from Owen Sound was astounding to the point where we said we have to do a show there,” says Wyldstar.
He adds with Owen Sound now on the rotation of comicon’s the organization hosts, depending on how well the events does, Pop Culture Canada will look at hosting the show twice a year in the city.
“We really want to bring the experience to the fans out there and the reaction we are getting from fans right now is astounding. Plans are already in the works for another one,” says Wyldstar.
He says the event will also be collecting non-perishable food donations, which will be left with the legion to distribute to local food banks.
This is the second comicon to find a home in Grey Bruce within the last year after another event was held in Southampton over the summer.
