A new doctor is coming to Lion’s Head and Tobermory.
The Peninsula Family Health Team says in a release Dr. Claire Bodkin is expected to arrive in early May and that the health team will be offering rostered patient spots to residents of Northern Bruce Peninsula who do not currently have a family physician and have been on their waitlist for primary care.
They say Dr. Bodkin will be expanding care of of the health team’s patients in the areas of substance use disorders, gender affirming care and mental health. She will also provide Emergency and Hospitalist care through the Brightshores-Lion’s Head hospital site.
Some residents might already be familiar with her after her work as a clinic locum and emergency department physician during the summer of 2024.
A release from the health team says Bodkin is a graduate of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton. She obtained her independent practice licence in 2021. She has spent worked as a locum in Southwestern & Northern Ontario and Northwest Territories.
The family heath team says “She has a keen interest in research and teaching and currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor as well as the Postgraduate Research & Scholarship Director with the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University.”
Bodkin joins five current family physicians who provide primary care at the Peninsula Family Health Team.
Dr. Elaine Blau, Lead Physician of the Peninsula FHT says in a statement “Adding Dr. Bodkin to our team not only strengthens the work we already do but also brings additional practice skills and knowledge that will broaden patient care services here on the Peninsula.”
The health team is also thanking mayor and council as well as their community Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee for their ongoing support of local primary care.
