The Town of South Bruce Peninsula says phone scammers are pretending to be from the local fire department.
The Town says in a release, the scammers are targeting local residents by calling them and claiming to represent the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, asking for $500 donations via credit card or e-transfer.
The Town says the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department does not solicit donations by phone and would never ask residents for money in this way. They say fundraising efforts have only ever involved partnerships with local community businesses.
The Town says the OPP have been notified.
