The co-founder of Owen Sound’s Festival of Northern Lights has passed away.
Marie Walpole passed peacefully on August 28th at her nursing home in Hamilton, at the age of 95.
Her death was confirmed by her grandson, Jamie Walpole.
The family worked tirelessly to create the first displays for the festival back when it was established in 1987.
She and her son owned a stained glass business across from city hall when they came up with the idea for the Festival of Northern Lights.
Although she was unable to attend the festival for the past few years, her family was able to send her pictures and video of the displays.
She was always thrilled to see her original idea grow over the years.
Her family has planned a celebration of life:
Sunday, September 18th
Carmen’s Banquet Centre, The Mercante Room
1520 Stone Church Road E.
Hamilton, from 12-3 pm
