The local community volunteer group, ‘electHER Now’ is offering some spring courses for women who are locally elected or interested in running for election.
They’ve been sending letters to local councils to make them aware a three-part online learning series set for February 28th, March 28th and April 21st.
The group says in its letter, they’re working to increase public knowledge of the importance of municipal government, and to develop learning and networking opportunities for people as they seek or hold elected office.
The group’s website says right now women make up over 50 per cent of the population in the Grey Bruce region but only 29 per cent of elected municipal officials.
The series, called “Finding My Place, Balance & Confidence,” will be introduced by The Honourable Bernadette Clement, Canadian Senator and former Cornwall Mayor.
It will feature nine experienced panelists from across Ontario. The group says over the three sessions, discussions will include the importance of meeting protocol, the balancing acts required of those in office, and resources panelists have found helpful in their roles.
They say electHER Now events are open to all, with no financial barrier. They do encourage donations to support the organization on a Pay What You Can Basis, but it is not mandated.
