Kincardine Council has committed to chipping in along with Bruce County’s Spruce The Bruce Program to help downtown business owners recover from vandalism to storefronts earlier this month.
Early on the morning of June 6th, eleven businesses in downtown Kincardine were vandalized, and business owners woke up to the reality of broken glass from smashed windows.
Bruce County Economic Development Manager Jeff Loney was available to Kincardine Council for the motion to help provide funding to the businesses.
“We realized our Spruce The Bruce program would be the perfect vehicle to be able to provide financial incentives to these businesses, acknowledging that there [are] other pieces in place, we put that number at $500 [each].”
The total that the county will give is $5500 in total to the eleven businesses.
He explained that “Bruce County will be pulling $5500 from our Spruce The Bruce reserve, that county council put in place last year, for situations just like this.”
Loney also said that this one-time funding would not impact other organizations looking for funding from Spruce The Bruce.
One person was taken into custody by police following the vandalism spree.
