The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority is fulfilling a dream at Inglis Falls with its latest project.
The authority says the Inglis Falls Arboretum Alliance (IFAA), a volunteer committee of the authority, welcomed guests to a special event on July 18 to celebrate the completion of the “Fulfilling the Dream” sign project.
The project aimed to fully label trees and shrubs found in arboretum from around the world and shares information about the each of the species along a 2.5 kilometre trail.
The Authority says the 60-year dream project was made possible with funding from the Toronto Dominion Friends of the Environment Foundation of having a fully labelled arboretum.
Chair of the IFAA Nancy Brown says, “it was an honour for me to stand and speak among my peers of like-minded individuals who love trees, respect the environment and care about the future. The Inglis Falls Arboretum Alliance is proud to showcase the new educational portion of the collection of woody plants in the arboretum. Each one of 165 different species is identified on 280 information mounted signs throughout the 27 acres and trails around the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority Administration Centre.”
The arboretum, located at 237897 Inglis Falls Road in Owen Sound is a popular destination for nature appreciation, dog walking and those looking for a hike. The authority says while dogs are always welcome, they must be on a leash for their safety, the safety of others, the ecological health of the property.
