The 8th Annual 97.9 The Bruce Light The Way Radiothon in support of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is set to go Thursday.
The day-long event from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. raises money to purchase equipment for the local hospital.
Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray says this year, they’re raising money for cardiac monitors for inpatients and also for the renovation and expansion of the nurses station, which hasn’t been updated since the 1960s.
New this year, people can also donate bottles of liquor to be used in the hospital foundation’s bottle pool on its next casino night. For every bottle you bring, you get entered into a draw for a lottery bouquet made up of $200 worth of scratch tickets.
Murray says if you sign up online to be a GEM donor (Give Every Month) before the end of the month, Bruce Power and suppliers will match your donations through 2024. “You’re doubling your impact. You’re doubling your donation,” says Murray.
It’s anticipated that over its cumulative eight years, the radiothon will surpass the $1 million mark this year.
