Two local music festivals are receiving money from the Province.
In a release, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says $37,685 is going to Owen Sound’s Music at the Market and the Paisley Blues Festival.
Walker says in a statement, “Festivals and events like the Paisley Blues Festival and Music at the Market make important contributions to our communities creating local jobs and boosting the local economy.”
Walker says the one-time funding increase is more than double past annual funding. The aim is to ensure the long-term success of the events while helping municipalities and organizations deliver innovative and safe experiences.
Music at the Market will receive $10,000 and The Paisley Blues Festival’s Summer Series of Live Music will receive $27,685.
Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Lisa MacLeod says in a statement, “For more than a year, the pandemic has disproportionately impacted tourism and culture—two major industries that bring people together and our communities to life.”
The funding is being distributed through the Reconnect Festival and Event Program.
The Ontario government is putting nearly $50 million into supporting 439 festivals and events across Ontario.
