The Georgian College Owen Sound campus is welcoming a new Executive Director for early October.
A release notes Dave Shorey will be taking on the role on Oct. 12 and will be part of the college’s senior leadership team, overseeing the strategic direction of the campus. Part of which includes cultivating, developing and nurturing positive relationships with community, government and industry partners.
Born and raised in Southampton and attended school in Owen Sound, Shorey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Global Studies and Master of Education from Wilfred Laurie University. He is also in the process of completing this Doctor of Education at Western University in Educational Leadership.
Shorey is the Innovation Officer for the Municipal Innovation Council in Bruce County where he has build a network of stakeholders to identify as well as understand and co-develop solutions to rising issues in the community. Among his accomplishments, Shorey has also put together a framework for eight municipal organizations which identify areas of opportunity and strategic capabilities for advancement.
In addition, Shorey is also a faculty member at Wilfred Laurie University and teaches in the Master of Education program and was previously Associate Director for Residence Education at the university.

“With an outstanding career in postsecondary education and municipal capacity building, he brings a wealth of expertise to Georgian and models many of the skills we hope to instill in our students as an innovator, changemaker and lifelong learner,” says West-Moynes.
Shorey also has provided consultations to several postsecondary facilities on designing curriculums for experiential learning while outside the classroom. He also involves himself in a number of professional associations geared towards student success and sustainable growth in the postsecondary sector.
Shorey says he looks forward to celebrating the strengths of Georgian’s Owen Sound Campus and is eager to work closely with current and prospective students, staff, faculty, community and industry partners.
“I’m deeply invested in creating a space for all to call Georgian home. I’ve seen firsthand how rich this area’s potential is and the college is uniquely positioned to build community capacity and provide critical resources that supports sustainable growth in the region,” says Shorey.
